Urogynecology and Female Pelvic Reconstruction

A urogynecologist is the specialist caring for women with these pelvic floor disorders who has not only completed 4 years of traning in Obstetrics and Gynecology but has also undergone a fellowship specifically aimed at developing skills in the evaluation and treatment of conditions that affect the female pelvic organs.

A urogynecologist can recommend a variety of therapies to cure or relieve symptoms of prolapse, urinary or fecal incontinence,  urogenital fistulas, or other pelvic floor disorders.

Although a great deal is written about women’s health issues, female pelvic floor dysfunction receives little attention.  These problems, which include urinary & fecal incontinence and prolapse of pelvic organs (protrusion of the uterus and vagina) affect up to 50% of women during their lifetime.  Dr. Kwon, a fellowship-trained urogynecologist, has dedicated herself to both the diagnosis and treatment of complex pelvic floor dysfunction and the relief of these problems that plague an ever increasing number of women as they age.  Many of the corrective procedures are minimally invasive, performed either vaginally, laparoscopicaly or robotically, resulting in either no hospitalization or a very short stay.   Such techniques yield minimal pain, rapid recovery and limited scarring.

It should be noted that Dr. Kwon is also known for her international humanitarian efforts for women on in Latin America and Africa who suffer from the same conditions.
This work has led to a myriad of accolades for her efforts and is translated into a broad experience in treating these unique problems.

There will be a physician on call 24 hours everyday. Patients that phone after office hours for an emergency (312) 997-2229, will have care directed by the on call physician.
